JOHN CHALLIS

SCHOLARSHIP

AWARD WINNERS

The Freedom Lil' Bulldogs Football Organization has enjoyed terrific success over the years in collecting and donating money to various charitable organizations.

Beginning in 2009, it was decided that it would be more fitting to donate to a worthy cause more close to home, to support the mission and goal of one of our own, John Challis.

John, a former Lil' Bulldog player, was diagnosed with cancer in June 2006 at the age of 16 and lost his hard fought battle on August 19, 2008 at the age of 18. John's wonderful courage and outlook on living life to the fullest was, and is, an inspiration to many and touched people worldwide. Before his passing, John helped establish the Courage For Life Foundation which provides life encouraging sporting experiences and community support for high school athletes with life threatening illnesses.

The Freedom Lil' Bulldogs Football Organization will designate a game each season as the Courage For Life Foundation game where all players and cheerleaders will collect donations leading up to the game, and where our organization will donate the proceeds from the game for this worthy cause.

The John Challis Scholarship Award was established in 2009 in memory of one of our former players who made a worldwide impact before succumbing to cancer at the age of 18. The award will be given annually to a graduating Freedom Area High School student based on cumulative grade point average, class rank, college board scores, and how the individual reflects John Challis' spirit of overcoming adversity and perseverance.
